Canine Nasal Mites

Poor Link with a runny and itchy nose.
Link started sneezing a lot a couple of days ago. He he also started shaking his head and scratching. First I thought he might have some kind of ear infection (which is typically manifested as scratching and shaking the head), but the vet checked the ears and they were fine. When I mentioned the sneezing and we saw that there was discharge from the nose, the vet suggested that it might be nasal mites.

Signs that your dog has nasal mites:
Nosebleeds
Sneezing
Reverse sneezing
Impaired scenting ability
Facial rash
Nasal discharge
Head shaking
Stridor (A loud, harsh, high pitched respiratory sound)

Link had three of these symptoms, so even if we hadn't seen any mites, we treated him anyway. There has been a lot of dogs coming to the clinic lately with nasal mites, so it felt like a likely explanation for his symptoms. Now he has been treated and he will be treated again in two weeks time. Hopefully he will get better soon, right now he is a bit under the weather.

If your dog show one or more of the symptoms above, contact your veterinarian.
